The MBA Oath by Max Anderson and Peter Escher
By far chapter 8 of the book is the best; the author delineates capitalism in its true sense. Many people come to wrong conclusion in the quest for their personal ambition –– greed is good. My motto in life is that one has to maintain balance in life. Any extreme form will just bring stress, tension, and like. One should be pursuing "self-interest" and not greed as the guideline for one's ambition. But to decide when are you crossing that thin line of self-interest and greed is a tough call. So that is where greater good concept jumps in. You make decisions that incorporates the environment. Where you define the boundary of that environment is the key question? Is at the organizational level, industry level, market level, society level, national level, international level, or humanity level? Expand your horizon and you will never be wrong. Author puts another twist to this mountain story that is really beautiful. "It is more important for everyone to get down alive than for one person to reach to the top." When competition turns into battle; when protection turns into killing; or when self-interest turns into greed makes a huge difference in deciding when right turns into wrong.
